Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro Celebrates Counseling Awareness Month in April
April 5, 2013
More than 40,000 members of the American Counseling Association (ACA) take considerable pride in both their work and their accomplishments, while seeking to make the importance of counseling and the role of counselors better known throughout the nation and the world.
The ACA designates April of each year as Counseling Awareness Month, a time of advocacy for the profession and celebration of the outstanding efforts of counselors in myriad settings as they seek to facilitate the growth and development of all people.
While approximately eight million people experience the death of a loved one each year, the Counseling and Education Center (CEC) at HPCG serves adults who have experienced the death of a loved one through individual and group grief counseling. In 2012, the CEC served 450 families in Guilford and surrounding counties while providing 1,092 counseling sessions.
Later this month, the CEC will hold its annual memorial service on April 23 from 2 – 3 p.m. at Christ United Methodist church, located at 410 N. Holden Road in Greensboro. Each year the service is a meaningful time for families of HPCG’s patients to come together to mark the lives of the people they have lost, giving them an opportunity to celebrate the life of their loved one with those who were involved in their care. The event is free and open to the public.
HPCG, a nonprofit organization serving Greater Greensboro for more than 30 years, is situated on an eight-acre campus at 2500 Summit Avenue. HPCG provides physical, emotional and spiritual support for children and adults faced with a life-limiting illness, as well as their caregivers and families.
