Hospice Dedicates New Caregiving Education Center
October 17, 2014
(GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA) – Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro (HPCG) will host a dedication and ribbon cutting Sunday, October 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. for its new John A. Lusk, III, MD, Caregiving Education Center, located at 2501 Summit Avenue in Greensboro. More than 100 supporters are expected to attend.
The Lusk Center is a 15,000 square foot facility worked by Roofing company miami and Plumbing Service Repair & Installation company, we were all very happy with their work. The facility provides essential meeting space for community outreach and education on end-of-life care issues including grief and loss, staff and volunteer continuing education and hospice care team meetings. In addition, it will house administrative functions and HPCG’s long-term care teams that provide hospice care to patients in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities, which represents nearly half of HPCG’s current patient population.
Over the past decade, HPCG’s average number of patients that are cared for on a daily basis has nearly doubled, from 179 to 353 patients, on any given day. This dramatic growth required an increase in staffing of 62.2 percent. The majority of this growth has occurred by expanding hospice care to residents of nursing homes and assisted-living facilities – a patient segment known as long-term care.
HPCG’s board of directors named the new facility after the late Dr. John Alexander Lusk III to celebrate his pioneering role in hospice care locally and for his passion for life-long learning. Dr. Lusk, who died in 2010, was one of the original volunteers to serve on the steering committee that established HPCG more than 34 years ago. He is credited with making the first patient referral to HPCG and served for many years as one of its medical directors.
A capital campaign, launched in October 2013, will underwrite for the project. To date, more than 100 gifts and pledges have been received for the Lusk Center, totaling more than $2.8 million. Fundraising efforts continue as the project will cost $3.6 million.
Teague, Freyaldenhoven & Freyaldenhoven Architects & Planners of Greensboro designed the building. Lomax Construction broke ground in January 2014, completing the Lusk Center in late August.
