The 28th annual Light Up A Life Service was held on Sunday, December 9 at First Baptist Church in downtown Greensboro. With more than 600 people in attendance, this interfaith service offered guests a meaningful way to honor and remember special friends and family members at the holiday season.

While more than 2,700 people were remembered with a Light Up A Life gift in 2012, HPCG saw a 4.7 percent increase in donors from the previous year. If gifts were received by December 4, names were printed in the Light Up A Life program, which are still available. Please contact the resource development department at 336.621.2500 to receive a copy.

“It’s really an event for the whole community,” said Paul Russ, vice president of marketing and development. “Although the holidays represent a way to share memories with family members and friends, people sometimes struggle to find an appropriate place after the loss of a loved one. Light Up A Life offers people a new tradition they can incorporate into their lives and allows them to celebrate and remember their loved ones.

The service featured guest speakers from the community and special music selections performed by various children and adult choirs. After the service, guests were encouraged to drive to the Wrangler building to view the HPCG Tree of Remembrance located at 400 North Elm Street. Light Up A Life is designed to help people feel comfortable and celebrate what remains. Although remembering is painful, holding on to those memories is how you keep your loved ones alive.
