Beacon Place Director Chosen as 2013 Triad Nurse of Distinction
May 17, 2013
Pat Gibbons, RN, BSN, has been awarded the 2013 Triad Nurse of Distinction by the North Carolina Nurses Association as part of National Nurses Week.
“Nurses have more direct contact with patients than anyone else in all of heathcare. Simply put, they are the backbone of our healthcare delivery system, “said Pat Campbell, president of the North Carolina Nurses Association.
More than 100 nurses from local hospitals and health care agencies were nominated for the seventh annual award, which recognizes registered nurses who make a positive impact on patients and the community. Gibbons, who has been in the field for 44 years, has lead Beacon Place, a 14-room in-patient facility at HPCG since it opened in 1996.
“She advocates for every patient and family and assists in determining the best care options for them,” said Susan Cox, HPCG’s chief clinical officer. Cox has worked with Gibbons for more than 11 years.
Gibbons is also active with Triad Health Project, but her work with HIV/AIDS extends beyond the Triad. She was involved in the development of the Clinical Guide to Supportive and Palliative Care for HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, a project led by Virginia-based FHSSA in the mid-2000s, as well as a documentary about the epidemic in 2005.
HPCG, a nonprofit organization serving Guilford County and surrounding areas for more than 30 years, is situated on an eight-acre campus at 2500 Summit Avenue. HPCG provides physical, emotional and spiritual support for children and adults faced with a life-limiting illness, as well as their caregivers and families.
