In 2012, Tri for Hospice set a goal to raise $15,000 for Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro (HPCG). Thanks to generous support from the community, HPCG raised more than $34,000 for its programs and services. While last year’s fund-raising efforts were centered on the national stage of the New York City Inaugural Ironman Championships, this year Tri for Hospice is focused on engaging the local community and will hold its ride in Summerfield.

The Gears and Steers Ride for Hospice is ideally situated in the heart of the Triad. This beautiful ride from Summerfield Farm takes you on country roads where the pavement is nice and the hills are rolling. The Gears and Steers Ride for Hospice has 25 and 50 mile options. Each distance is fully supported with mechanics and well stocked aid stations. The 50 miler starts at 9 a.m. and the 25 miler at 9:30 a.m. The post-ride party begins at noon and lasts until 2 p.m. Visit www.rideforhospicenc.com to register today.

The Gears and Steers Ride for Hospice is organized by a group of athletes dedicated to raising awareness and funds for HPCG. The 2013 Tri for Hospice team consists of Karen Buxton, Becky Sage, Dina Arceo and Phil Beane. “I believe that our success is a reflection of what our family, friends and community think about hospice care and the support they provide to people in need,” said Buxton.

HPCG, a nonprofit organization serving Guilford County and surrounding areas for more than 30 years, is situated on an eight-acre campus at 2500 Summit Avenue. HPCG provides physical, emotional and spiritual support for children and adults faced with a life-limiting illness, as well as their caregivers and families.
